Mastering Menopause - Common Symptoms

Updated: May 29, 2023

Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman's reproductive years. It typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, and is characterised by a decrease in oestrogen production. Menopause can cause a variety of physical and emotional symptoms, including:

  1. Hot flashes: Sudden feeling of warmth and heat, often accompanied by sweating and a rapid heartbeat.

  2. Night sweats: Similar to hot flashes, but occur during the night and can disrupt sleep.

  3. Irregular periods: Menstrual cycles become unpredictable, and periods may become lighter or heavier than usual.

  4. Vaginal dryness: Reduced oestrogen levels can cause vaginal tissue to become dry, which may cause discomfort during sex.

  5. Mood changes: Fluctuating hormone levels can cause irritability, anxiety, and depression.

  6. Sleep problems: Insomnia or difficulty falling asleep may occur.

  7. Weight gain: Changes in hormone levels can cause weight gain, especially around the waist.

  8. Loss of bone density: Lower oestrogen levels can lead to a loss of bone density and an increased risk of osteoporosis.

  9. Decreased libido: Lower levels of oestrogen can reduce sex drive.

  10. Dry skin and hair: Reduced oestrogen levels can cause changes in skin and hair texture, leading to dryness and brittleness.

Do any these seems familiar, you are not alone I know I am struggling with at least 4 of the above.

Hang in there - with help & support we'll get through!
