Menopause Fatigue - Just How Tired are You?

Menopause fatigue, also known as menopausal fatigue, is a common symptom experienced by many women during the menopausal transition. It is characterised by a persistent feeling of tiredness, lack of energy, and a general sense of exhaustion.

Here are some common characteristics of menopause fatigue:

  • Persistent tiredness: Women experiencing menopause fatigue often feel chronically tired, even after getting adequate sleep. They may wake up feeling unrested and struggle to maintain energy levels throughout the day.

  • Decreased stamina: Activities that were once easily manageable may become more challenging due to a noticeable decrease in stamina. Engaging in physical or mental tasks may feel more exhausting and require more effort.

  • Lack of motivation: Menopause fatigue can also be accompanied by a reduced motivation to engage in activities that were previously enjoyable. Simple tasks can feel overwhelming, and there may be a decreased interest in socialising or participating in hobbies.

  • Brain fog: Many women experiencing menopause fatigue report difficulty concentrating and experiencing "brain fog." Mental clarity and focus may be compromised, making it harder to stay alert and perform tasks that require cognitive effort.

  • Physical symptoms: Menopause fatigue can manifest alongside other physical symptoms such as muscle aches, joint pain, and headaches. These symptoms can contribute to a general feeling of malaise and exhaustion.

It's important to note that menopause fatigue can vary in severity and duration from person to person. If you're experiencing persistent fatigue during menopause, it is advisable to consult with a gp who can provide guidance, evaluate your specific symptoms, and suggest appropriate strategies for managing fatigue.
